HSV is back...., oh yes HSV-Cricket
is back to it's very best. Three NDCV tournaments in 2008 and three
trophies added to HSV-Cricket's collection. Howz that!!!
The latest of these came in the form of
prestigious One day tournament. Though both of the finalist teams were
from Hamburg, HICC insisted of playing the final
in Kiel which didn't do any good for them rather it brought more
motivation, commitment and positive approach in HSV-Cricket team. They
played with only one aim in mind and that was to make a clean sweep of
the trophies on offer by NDCV as they had already won the other two.

HICC won the toss and sent HSV-Cricket to
bat. Like so many times this year our openers gave a rock solid start.
Our smart and intellectual opener a PhD researcher Fahad Saeed is
proving too much for the oppositions. In the semi
final against Pak Alemi he had around 150 runs opening
partnership with the captain Zaheer and in the
final he again played and anchor innings of 50 runs and got out
in the 34th over. The other opener Shams also played beautifully for his
45 runs and opening partnership made 80 runs.
Rest of the team also chipped in with some
useful runs and though the ground was in a very bad shape for a
final match, HSV-Cricket made 194 all out in
47 overs. If that score is thought to be not up to the mark then one had
to be there in Kiel to judge the enormity of it.
HICC started the chase but it was lost in
the haze of some devastating fast bowling by Barkatullah and others.
Barkatullah took 6 wickets and that was the end of a non existing
attempt to reach the target. The one sided match finished in the 27th
over as HICC made 95 all out.
HSV-Cricket is also very thankful to
Manfred and Sabine. They are real special cricket lovers and HSV-Cricket's
top most fans. Both of them traveled all the way to Kiel to watch the
final and stayed there to backup the team.
The time has also come to fulfil old
promises as at the start of the year Mr. Hartmut (the abteilungsleiter
HSV-Cricket) promised that if the team wins all of the trophies it will
be rewarded with ......
The HSV-Cricket Team that played in the
final was :
Barkatullah Masaud, Fahad Saeed, Tahir Butt, Shams uz Zaman, Ali Imran,
Kaleem Ahmed, Nasir Mahmood, Shakeel Ahmed, Kamran Ahmed, N. N. Khan,
Naeem Ahmed, Riaz Butt and Hartmut Stöpel.
