NDCV Twenty20 Championship 2008

Once again an other NDCV Cricket tournament and another championship win for HSVCricket.

The 2nd edition of NDCV Twenty20 was played on 11th & 12th of May 2008 in Hamburg and Kiel. In all 7 teams from North Germany (HSV-Cricket, Pak Alemi, Alster CC, HamburgYouth, Goettingen, Bremen and HICC) participated in this tournament in two groups. Pak
Alemi came on top of Group1 while HSV-Cricket concurred the 2nd group. So another final between arch rivals HSV-Cricket and Pak Alemi became a reality.

HSV-Cricket's captain won the toss and elected to bat first. Initially it looked like a little wrong decision as HSV-Cricket lost 3 quick wickets but then HSV showed it's bench strength as the next two batsmen (Kamran and Tahir) showed what a real top cricket club
means. They built a partnership of over 100 runs and what a partnership it was!!! They hit so many fours and sixes that the crowd who came to watch this final lost their voices by cheering again and again and again. Kamran got out after making fiery 51 runs while Tahir played a splendid innings of 62 runs. After taking these two wickets Pak Almi bowlers thought they are back in the match but there was more pain in store for them. Now came Barkat and Kaleem to the wicket and with in no time they added another 50 plus runs to the total. This mammoth total of 212 runs in 20 overs is a record in NDCV Twenty20 history and would really be hard to beat in near future.

Now came the reply of Pak Alemi which wasn't bad at all in the starting overs. In the first 8 overs Pak Alemi also attacked with power and scored around 100 runs for two wickets but HSV-Cricket captain Mr. Zaheer as well as all of the team didn't lost their nerves and in the 9th over Zaheer took a very crucial Pak Alemi wicket with a clever slower delivery and that proved to be the turning point of the match. After that, though some of the Pak Alemi players tried to score at a brisk pace but they kept on losing their wickets in quick intervals and all of the team got out after making 155 runs in 17 overs. From HSV side the captain Zaheer Malik and Barkatullah took 3 wickets each, one run out and the other three wickets were shared by Shakeel, Shams and Tahir. All in all HSV-Cricket dominated the match except for a little portion in both innings where Pak Almi looked like a team to compete on the same level.

Mr. Khalid Rauf and Mr. Mohammad Rasheed did a super neutral job as umpires and must be congratulated for conducting such a smooth final match.

The HSV team which took part in the final was : Mr. Zaheer Malik, Barkatullah, Tahir, Kamran, Shakeel, Fahad, Shams, Bilal, Kaleem, Farhad, Nasir, Riaz (12th man).
